Unix Timestamp Converter
Convert an epoch value to a readable date, or a date back to epoch. Seconds, milliseconds and microseconds are detected automatically.
Timestamp to date
Date to timestamp
What this does
A Unix timestamp counts the time elapsed since 1 January 1970 at 00:00:00 UTC, not counting leap seconds. The same instant has one epoch value everywhere on earth; only the way it is displayed changes with the time zone. That is why the converter always shows the UTC reading next to the local one.
How the unit is detected
Ten digits is read as seconds, thirteen as milliseconds and sixteen as microseconds. The detected unit is shown above the result, so you can tell whether a value was read the way you expected. Negative values work too and resolve to dates before 1970.
Limits worth knowing
A signed 32-bit timestamp overflows on 19 January 2038, which is why older systems cannot represent dates past that point. This page uses the browser's own date handling, so it is not affected, but a system you are debugging may well be. Values beyond roughly 275,760 CE cannot be represented at all and are reported as out of range.
