One clear job, from markup to report

  1. 1

    Paste the HTML

Open the page and press Ctrl+U for View Source, or copy the outer HTML from the developer tools, and paste it. Include the style blocks, otherwise contrast cannot be measured.

  2. 2

    Read the findings

Each finding names the element, the WCAG success criterion and its level, and a fix. Contrast is only checked where both colours can be read from the CSS you pasted; other elements are counted as skipped, not passed.

  3. 3

    Copy or download the report

Copy the report, download it as Markdown, or save it as PDF through your browser's print dialog.

What a pasted-HTML accessibility check can tell you

Paste the source, not a URL

You paste the HTML of one page, for example from View Source or the developer tools. That also works for drafts and pages behind a login. Include the style blocks, otherwise colour contrast cannot be measured. The check covers WCAG 2.1 levels A and AA. Level AAA and the criteria added in WCAG 2.2 are not part of it. The HTML is parsed in your browser and never uploaded.

Findings you can act on

Each finding names the element, the WCAG success criterion, its level and a fix. Typical findings are images without alt text, form fields without a label, links without a name, a missing lang attribute and low contrast. Contrast is only checked where both colours can be read from the pasted CSS. Other elements are counted as skipped, not passed. You can copy the report, download it as Markdown or save it as PDF through the print dialog.

What still needs a person

The score is a rough weighting of the findings against the amount of markup. It helps you watch a trend across a rebuild, but a high score does not mean the page is accessible. A static check cannot judge whether alt text fits the image, whether the reading order makes sense or whether a custom widget works with the keyboard. That takes a keyboard, a screen reader and a person. The report is a first step, not proof of compliance.

Questions before you run it

Does this replace manual accessibility testing?

No. A static check of the markup finds structural problems such as missing alt attributes, unlabeled form fields and low contrast in the pasted CSS. Whether alt text is meaningful, whether the reading order makes sense or whether a custom widget works with the keyboard still needs a person.

Which WCAG version and levels are covered?

WCAG 2.1 levels A and AA. Level AAA is not checked, and the criteria added in WCAG 2.2 are not part of this check. Each finding is labelled with its success criterion and level.

Can I check a page by URL?

Not here. A page running in your browser cannot fetch another site's HTML, so you paste the source instead. That also works for pages behind a login. To scan a public website by URL in a desktop and a mobile view, use the Website Accessibility Quick Scanner, which needs a signed-in account.

What does the accessibility score mean?

It is a rough weighting of the findings against the amount of markup, useful for watching a trend across a rebuild. A high score does not mean the page is accessible, and no score is a compliance statement.

Can I download the report?

Yes. Copy it, download it as Markdown, or save it as PDF through your browser's print dialog.

Is my HTML uploaded?

No. The HTML is parsed in your browser and never sent anywhere. Closing the tab discards it.
