Working out margin per order from two marketplace exports
What you upload
You upload two CSV files: your marketplace sales export and your cost export. One job takes up to 100,000 settlement rows across both files. An export that is too large is turned down, not cut short. Rows are matched only by the order ID present in both files. Nothing is paired by date, amount or a similar name.
What comes back
The download holds result.csv, findings.csv and manifest.json. result.csv gives the revenue, the costs, the margin and the margin percent for each matched order. findings.csv lists orders missing one side. A cost with no matching sale stays visible there and never lowers the margin of matched orders. A reformatted order ID shows up as unmatched, so check the findings before you trust the totals.
What counts as a cost
There are no options to set. Only the costs in your export are added up. Fees, returns, advertising, tax and product cost are never estimated, and no marketplace fee rules are built in. If your idea of margin includes those items, add them as cost rows in your export. The table supports your review. It is not profit or tax advice.
Questions before you run it
How are the revenue and cost exports joined?
Rows are matched on the order identifier present in both files. Nothing is paired by date, amount or approximate name, so a reformatted order ID surfaces as an unmatched row instead of a wrong join.
What happens to a cost row with no matching revenue?
It stays visible as an orphan cost in the findings and never reduces the margin calculated on matched orders. Revenue with no cost attached is treated the same way.
Does the margin include fees, returns, advertising or VAT?
Only the costs present in your export are aggregated. Advertising spend, returns, tax and product cost are not estimated, so add them as cost rows if your definition of contribution margin includes them.
Does it understand how a specific marketplace names its fee columns?
No provider fee schedules or column conventions are built in. The job reads what your exports contain, which keeps the numbers reproducible when a marketplace changes its report layout.
How many settlement rows fit in one job?
Up to 100,000 rows across the supplied CSV files. The ceiling is shown before upload and an oversized export is rejected rather than silently truncated.
