Turn meeting notes into action items with owners

Paste your notes or a transcript. Action items with owners and due dates, decisions and open questions appear as you type, each with the line it came from. Free, no account, and your notes stay in your browser.

Bullets, plain text or a transcript

A fictional sample is loaded so you can see the result. Select it all, paste your own notes, and the list below updates as you type.

“By Friday” or “end of next week” is counted from this date, not from today.

Owner names the tool accepts

Built from an attendee line, @handles, speaker prefixes and first names that recur next to words like “will” or “agreed to”. Add a name it missed or remove a word that is not a person. Pressing Extract builds the list again from the notes.

What you get from the notes above

Everything here comes from the box above and changes when you edit it. Owner, task and due date can be edited in the table. Exports use the table as it is now, with your edits and without removed rows.

The line under each item shows the text it was taken from

Lines that matched nothing

Nothing is dropped without being listed. Check these lines for an action the tool did not recognise.

From notes to action list in three steps

  1. 1

    Paste the notes

Bullets, plain paragraphs or a transcript with timestamps and speaker names. A line that wraps onto an indented next line is joined with the one above it before anything is matched.

  2. 2

Check the date and the owners

Set the meeting date so that “by Friday” lands on the right day. Owners come from a name list built from your notes. If a person is missing or a word such as Mark or May became an owner, edit the list.

  3. 3

    Edit and export

Correct an owner, task or due date in the table, remove rows you do not need, then copy or download the list as CSV for a spreadsheet or task manager, or as Markdown for a wiki page or a chat message.

Pulling action items and owners out of meeting notes

How a line becomes an action item

The tool matches wording line by line. A line becomes an action when it has a marker such as TODO, AI: or Action:, starts with an @handle, has a name from the owner list followed by a commitment such as “will”, “agreed to” or “needs to”, or is a bullet that opens with an instruction. Lines that say “Decision:”, “we agreed” or “approved” go to decisions. Lines that end in a question mark or say something is still open go to open questions.

What you still check

Every row keeps the deadline as you wrote it next to the resolved date, so a wrong guess about “next Friday” is easy to spot. Rows with a vague verb such as “look into” or “circle back” are marked, because those tend to come back unchanged at the next meeting. Read the list once before you send it to the team.

Questions before you run it

Is it free, and is there a daily limit?

Yes, it is free, with no daily job limit and no account. It is one of the 37 WoluTools tools that run entirely in your browser. The 3 free jobs a day and the 24-hour result expiry mentioned elsewhere on the site apply to tools that process files on the server. Here your notes never leave your device, so nothing is stored and nothing expires.

How does it find action items?

It matches the wording line by line. A line becomes an action when it has a marker such as TODO, AI: or Action:, starts with an @handle, has a name from the owner list followed by a commitment such as will, agreed to or needs to, or is a bullet that opens with an instruction. No language model reads your notes and nothing is sent anywhere.

What will it miss?

Actions written as a conclusion with no owner and no commitment, commitments buried in the middle of a long transcript paragraph, and nicknames or initials that do not match the owner list. Every line that matched nothing is listed under the results, so you can see what was skipped and add it yourself.

How are deadlines like “by Friday” worked out?

They are counted from the meeting date you set, not from today. A weekday means the first one on or after that date, end of week means the Friday of that week, and next sprint assumes two weeks. The wording from your notes stays next to the resolved date. A date such as 03/04/2026 is read as day/month and flagged.

What does the confidence label mean?

High means the item has an owner and a resolved date, medium means one of the two is missing, low means both are missing. It describes how complete the row is, not whether the commitment was real. Vague verbs such as look into or circle back are marked separately.

Can I export the list to a task manager?

Yes. Download the table as CSV for a spreadsheet or a task manager import, or as Markdown for a wiki page or a chat message. Both formats can also be copied. Exports include your edits and leave out rows you removed.
