Email link checker

Check every link and UTM tag in your newsletter

Add the email HTML or a list of campaign links. Every HTTP(S) link is checked for missing, empty, repeated or mixed-case UTM tags, and with redirect checking on, each hop to the final address is recorded.

Checking newsletter links and UTM tags before you send

What you upload and how much fits

You upload the email HTML from your newsletter tool, or a CSV list of URLs if your platform exports links that way. The tool pulls out every HTTP and HTTPS link, up to 500 per job. Address and telephone links are not fetched. Only the HTTP destinations that were actually checked count toward the job. If the file is too large or in another format, you are told before anything runs.

What the download contains

You get findings.csv with every problem found, http-evidence.csv with each redirect hop, and utm-repair-worksheet.csv, which lists each link with what is missing and a blank column for the corrected URL. A result.json and a short read-me come with them. Links missing utm_source, utm_medium or utm_campaign are named next to the value they actually carried. Open the evidence file to see where a shortened link finally lands. Your original HTML or CSV is not changed.

Settings and the choices left to you

You pick one of three UTM policies: consistency only, required fields, or custom rules where you type the parameter names yourself. Redirect checking is a checkbox you can switch off. The tool never rewrites a destination. You type the corrected URL into the worksheet yourself and paste it back into the campaign. It also does not guess what a campaign was meant to track.

Questions before you run it

Which links in my newsletter get checked?

HTTP and HTTPS destinations extracted from the uploaded HTML or CSV, up to 500 per job. Address and telephone links are not fetched, and only the checked HTTP destinations count toward the job.

Does it follow redirects, and can I switch that off?

Redirect checking is a checkbox. With it on, up to 5 redirects per link are followed and each hop is written to http-evidence.csv, which is how you find out where a shortened link finally lands.

How does it decide a UTM tag is wrong?

Three policies are available: consistency only, required fields, or custom rules where you type the parameter names yourself. A link missing utm_source, utm_medium or utm_campaign is named along with the value it actually carried.

Will it fix the broken tracking links for me?

No. Destinations are never rewritten. utm-repair-worksheet.csv lists each link with its missing or inconsistent fields and leaves the replacement URL blank for you to fill in and paste back into the campaign.

Can I check a campaign that is not exported as HTML?

A CSV of URLs works too. That is the usual route when the link list comes out of an email platform rather than the rendered template.

I only copied the HTML, or I only have one link. Can I still check it?

Yes. Paste the HTML into a text editor and save it as a .html file, or put the links in a plain text file, one per line, saved as .csv. Every http:// and https:// address in a CSV is picked up, so a file with a single URL works.
