HOW IT WORKS

From an MBOX file to emails you can read.

  1. 01
    Add the archive

Choose an .mbox, .eml or .zip file. Formats and limits are checked before anything runs.

  2. 02
    Confirm the job

You see the file names and settings first. Nothing is counted until you confirm.

  3. 03
    Download and read

Open index.html from the package to browse the messages. The encrypted result is kept for 24 hours.

What an opened archive looks like

This prepared example uses fictional data and the same structure as a real export: readable messages, attachments kept apart, and a list of anything that could not be read cleanly.

Recovery and evidence details

Besides reading mail, the same job rescues what it can from broken archives. These details matter for migrations, legal holds and records work.

  1. Add the source.Accepted inputs are MBOX, MBX, EML, ZIP. The visible limit is 25 files · 128 MB total.
  2. Confirm the job.Every assigned source number, selected filename and setting stays visible before the confirmed SHA-256 input hash is accepted. Product-specific mappings remain explicit settings rather than guessed roles.
  3. Process in isolation.A one-job networkless sandbox receives only this job and cannot access accounts, queues, encryption keys or other customer storage.
  4. Review exact findings.Inspect EML and RFC 4155-style MBOX bundles (including .mbx files only when they use that mbox envelope), preserve hashes and export an offline recovery package.
  5. Download the evidence.Browsable HTML index, EML export, quarantined attachments, message CSV and hash manifest Every output hash is covered by the coordinator-created manifest.

MBOX viewer FAQ

Can I read the emails without installing a mail program?

Yes. The package contains an index.html file that lists the readable messages and opens in any web browser. Each message is also saved as an .eml file, which most mail programs can open.

Which archive formats are accepted?

EML files and RFC 4155 style MBOX bundles, including .mbx files when they use that same mbox envelope. Up to 25 files and 128 MB in total, ZIP containers included.

Can it open a PST or MSG file?

No. Outlook PST stores, MSG items and proprietary MBX databases that are not mbox envelopes are rejected at intake rather than partly recovered.

What happens to attachments?

They are extracted into a quarantine folder and listed with a SHA-256 hash. Active content such as an HTML attachment keeps its remote references stripped in the browsable index.

What does a damaged message look like in the report?

A message with a broken MIME boundary keeps whatever body could be read and carries a parse warning with its message number, so you can see what was salvaged.

Does a completed run mean nothing was lost?

No. Recovery is bounded by what the file still contains. The register lists every warning and every skipped item, and no claim is made about messages the archive never held.
