Making a printable contact sheet from a video
What you bring
You bring a video as MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, up to 30 minutes long. The job is to turn it into a sheet of still frames you can print, scan through or pass on to a colleague. Frames are taken either at a fixed interval you set or at scene changes. A longer or unsupported file is refused before the job starts.
What you get back
You get the storyboard as a PDF laid out for printing, a JPG contact sheet and an HTML version. A frame CSV lists the timestamp of each frame for your own notes. Each tile is labelled with its measured timestamp and the file it came from. Nothing in the picture is interpreted, so there are no invented scene titles or summaries. Jump to a few timestamps in the video to check that the tiles match.
Sampling, columns and repeat runs
You choose fixed interval sampling or scene changes. For a fixed interval you set the number of seconds between frames. You also set the number of columns. More columns fit more of the video on a page, with smaller tiles. The scene detection threshold is written into the output, so a second run on the same file returns the same frames. Which frames matter for your edit or review is still your call.
Questions before you run it
How are the frames for the contact sheet chosen?
Either at a fixed interval in seconds that you set, or at detected scene changes. The detection threshold is written into the output, so a second run on the same file returns the same frames.
What is printed under each tile?
The measured timestamp and the source it was decoded from. No scene titles or summaries are invented, because nothing in the picture is interpreted.
How long a video can I turn into a storyboard?
Up to 30 minutes, from MP4, MOV, WEBM or MKV.
Can I print the result or edit it further?
The package holds a PDF laid out for printing, a JPG contact sheet and an HTML version, plus a frame CSV carrying the timestamps for your own notes.
How many columns does the sheet use?
You set the column count. Four is a common choice; a wider grid fits more of the video onto a page at the cost of tile size.
